During this specialty, you’ll work on orientation techniques with a compass and natural references, learning to plan and execute routes with precision and an exact return to the starting point. A key training to increase your safety, independence, and control as a diver.
The Underwater Navigation course is a specialty designed for certified divers who want to improve their underwater orientation and gain real autonomy on every dive.
The training focuses on the use of the underwater compass and the interpretation of natural references to plan routes, maintain directional control, and return precisely to the starting point. Upon completion, you will obtain the official SSI Navigation Specialty Diver certification.
During the 2 practical dives, you will apply orientation techniques with a compass and natural navigation, developing precision, directional control, and planning ability underwater.
You will learn to set courses, maintain constant directions, and execute navigation patterns (squares and triangles) with a precise return to the starting point.
You will develop the ability to identify and use relief, light, currents, and structures of the environment as reference points to maintain your location.
You will work on controlling your finning, consumption, and time to estimate distances traveled and plan routes with greater accuracy.
You will apply pre-planning protocols, active navigation during the dive, and verification of the return, increasing your autonomy and safety.
